Setting up Uniprint
Setting up a working Uniprint print management system requires a number of steps, as multiple components and sub-systems must be set up in order. Each of the main steps are discussed below.
Set up an Authenticated System
Where users are required to authenticate themselves to make use of Pharos services, set up an appropriate Bank at System > Banks. If users are not authenticated, but still pay for printing anonymously, a Bank specifying the payment method will still be required.
If internal User accounts are used, these must be inserted at Users > Accounts.
You can use the User Batch Loader to import Users into the Pharos Database in bulk.
Install Print Services
Install the Print Service on all Print Server PCs. Once installed, they will be listed on the Server Configuration context. Depending on the size of the site, multiple Print Services may be needed.
Set up Job Cost Methods
One or more Job Cost Methods must be set up in the Job Cost Methods context. These Job Cost Methods are used by Print Groups to determine the cost of print jobs sent to them (see below).
Set Global Properties
The System Properties can be accessed at System > System Settings:
- If internal user accounts are used to pay for services, set the purse names in the General section.
- In the Security section, select options for how users may alter their own accounts, and whether or not privileged users may manage printing and other users' accounts.
- If users are invoiced, set invoice letterhead details in the Letterhead section.
Set up Print Groups, Printers, and Queues
Print Groups, Printers, and Queues must be inserted and configured. You can set up these objects manually in the following contexts:
- Output Management > Print Groups
- Output Management > Queues
- Output Management > Devices
For initial installs, Pharos recommends using Insert Assistant or the Print Migration Assistant to set up the printing system.
Pay particular attention to the following settings when configuring these objects:
- Specify whether or not Print Groups will use Secure Release Here or Direct printing. This affects how jobs are released to printers, and whether or not Release Stations are needed.
- Select the appropriate Job Cost Method for each Print Group, to determine how they will cost print jobs sent to them.
- Associate the Devices and the Queues to a Print Group.
Set up and Install Popups
Set up Pharos Popups if users must supply information about the print job every time they print. This is important in a non-authenticated environment to protect users’ jobs from unauthorized intervention.
- Install the Popup Service on all Popup Servers (the Popup Service is installed with the Print Service). Once installed, they will be listed on the Server Configuration context.
- Specify the Questions that the Popup Service asks users. Pharos installs three standard questions with the product. If the standard questions are sufficient, no additional questions need to be configured. Questions are configured at Output Management > Popup Questions.
- Configure the groups of questions that apply to given printing situations. A single Question Group is attached to each Queue when Queue is configured. A user who prints a job to that queue must answer the questions configured in the group before the print process proceeds. Questions are grouped at Output Management > Popup Questions.
- If Third Party Charging applies, the process of setting Questions should be combined with this.
- Install the Popup Client on all workstations from which users can print jobs.
Set up and Install Release Stations
Insert Pharos Stations and/or Network Terminals at Release Stations, then install Pharos Station software on the specified PCs.
Pharos Stations can be set up when configuring the printing system with the Print Migration Assistant.
Install Pharos Remote
If Pharos Remote is used to allow users to manage printing or accounts, install the Pharos Remote application using the Pharos Remote Installer package.
